The Norwalk Art Space Announces An Open Call for Resident Artists and Korry Fellows

The Norwalk Art Space is pleased to announce that it has launched an open call for artists interested in a residency or fellowship at its beautiful new facility, ADK House in Norwalk, Connecticut. ADK House will open its doors in the Spring of 2021 with Covid permitting.

Consistent with its mission to promote local artists and provide free art education to under-served youth, The Norwalk Art Space is offering four Residencies and four Korry Fellowships for a one-year term starting Spring 2021. Resident Artists will be provided a free studio space and an opportunity to display their work in our beautiful art gallery in exchange for teaching a weekly class to art-oriented high school students who would otherwise have limited access to art education. Korry Fellows will have their work highlighted in major exhibitions in our gallery and will work with Resident Artists through teaching and mentorship. Applicants must have an interest in supporting the arts and mentoring and teaching the next generation of artists.

In exchange for their participation in the program, Resident Artists will receive:
• A private 300 sq.ft. studio space with a sink and full access to the ADK House facilities for one year
• Year-long gallery exhibition space
• Access to visiting regional artists and fellows
• Lifetime membership and alumnus status for annual events
• Community
“In order to help carry out the vision of our founder, Alexandra Korry, I hope to help develop an arts hub that will serve the Connecticut arts community and its youth for years to come. Growing up in Norwalk myself, I believe that a program like this would have helped me find confidence in my own artistic path at an earlier age. I’m looking forward to activating the space in ADK House and seeing it filled with students, artists and the public, especially after the difficult year we all have had” said Duvian Montoya, Artistic and Educational Director of The Norwalk Art Space.

The deadline for applications is February 1. For more information and application, please visit https://www.thenorwalkartspace.org/artist-residency . Criteria for selection include the artist’s body of work to date, potential for growth through a Residency or Fellowship, interest in teaching and teaching aptitude, ability to activate the Space, reputation in the community and interest in working with youth.

About The Norwalk Art Space and ADK House:
The Norwalk Art Space was founded and built by Alexandra Davern Korry (1959-2020), a trailblazing M&A lawyer, educator, civil rights advocate, and philanthropist. Alexandra wanted to create a space that would serve as a free hub for the arts, promoting local artists, enhancing educational opportunities for underserved students, and providing the public a welcoming space to enjoy art and music. Our building, ADK House, named for Alexandra, will include a gallery, sculpture garden and studios for artists, as well as classrooms and workspaces for students. It will also house a cafe overlooking the gallery, which will be an exciting new place to meet or hang. ADK House will be open to the public free of charge.
