Cyber Security Awareness Month

October is Cyber Security Awareness Month, but it’s never the wrong time to make sure you protect your own digital identity. Here are some tips: use strong passwords that are unique for every site you visit. Consider using complete phrases instead of words. When using public WiFi, always confirm you’re connecting to the right network, and never conduct sensitive financial and personal activities on public WiFi unless you use virtual private network software.  And when you aren’t using your Bluetooth, turn it off to keep the device secure.

When it comes to fraud, vigilance is our number one weapon. You have the power to protect yourself. For more information, go to www.aarp.org/fraudwatchnetwork.

Since we were young we’ve been taught about “stranger danger” but when it comes to financial crimes the crook is often someone we know. Join AARP Connecticut and Quinnipiac University to learn how to spot the signs that you or your loved one might be being taken advantage of at our free webinar When Trust is Betrayed: A Cautionary Tale to Combat Elder Abuse.
